本作は、日本ジャズ界が誇るテナーサックスのマエストロ・山口真文が、ファーストコール・ピアニストの片倉真由子と臨んだ自身初のデュオアルバム。テーマはウェイン・ショーター、ハービー・ハンコックら新主流派と呼ばれるミュージシャンの1960年代の楽曲群であり、それらに独自の解釈でスポットライトを当てた野心作です。これらの楽曲は次の世代に受け継がれるべき「次代のスタンダード」である、との思いから『Next Standards』というタイトルになりました。息のあったふたりのスリリングで美しいアンサンブルをどうぞお楽しみください。
 
This is tenor saxophone maestro Mabumi Yamaguchi's first duo album, performed alongside first-call pianist Mayuko Katakura. The theme is the 1960s music of new mainstream musicians such as Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. The title "Next Standards" comes from the idea that these are the "next generation standards" that should be passed down to the next generation. Please enjoy the thrilling and beautiful ensemble of the two in perfect harmony.
